Now there are 3 main categories of bulb types: incandescent, halogen and fluorescent. 

Incandescent lights are the traditional lights that you think of when lighting comes to mind.  They come in all shapes and sizes and can be made to fit many different types of fixtures.  They are cheap, however, they have the shortest lifespan and give off most of their light in the form of heat.  This can become a major concern when you have many of them lined up in a row, as they can truly heat up a small space like a bathroom rather quickly.   Their color spectrum usually has a warm feel to them.

Halogen bulbs burn hotter than incandescent lights. They get their name from their construction as they have a tungsten filament surrounded by halogen gas.   Their brighter temperatures mean the surface of the bulb can become extremely hot (as much as 300 degrees C.)  They do give off a brilliant white light though.

Fluorescent lights are commonly seen in commercial applications and are the long skinny lights that give off that cold, uninviting light.  In recent years they have come a long way and can now be found in all kind of other applications including bathroom.  They have been made smaller and in different shapes.  They have also been made to give off warmer light.  They are all around much more efficient and last almost 4 to 5 times as long as incandescent lights. 

Style of the Bathroom Lighting Fixture

The style of your bathroom lighting fixture is very important, as it must fit with your overall décor.  There is so much to choose from.  There is literally a different fixture to fit everyone’s tastes and preferences.  There are contemporary fixtures that add a bit if flare to your bathroom and come in all colors and sizes.

There are also brushed steel, or chrome, fixtures for that elegant modern look.  These fixtures might go good with a halogen bulb to keep every bright and shiny.  The traditional style including decorative curves and flutes make work for your bathroom as well.
